Volunteer of the quarter: Kit Liu

Volunteer of the quarter: Kit Liu

Employees are our greatest asset, and we share their time and talents with nonprofits around the world through volunteerism. SurveyMonkey is building a culture around it, encouraging employees to give back to the communities where they live and work.

In recognition of their generosity, we’re highlighting one employee each quarter who is living our #standforequality value through volunteer work. This quarter we’re recognizing Kit Liu from New York, NY for his work delivering meals with Heart of Dinner. With this recognition, Kit will receive $500 USD to donate to a charity of his choice. Congratulations, Kit!

To hear more about the important work he has been doing with Heart of Dinner, we met with Kit to learn more.

Why do you volunteer?
Volunteering makes me feel like I am part of a community where we can practice being kind to each other, all while helping those in need. As an engineer, I often try to problem-solve everything and forget that the people working with me are also living and breathing human beings. Volunteering helps remind me of that.

How do you typically volunteer?
My favorite volunteer project is packing meals and produce into bags to then deliver to those who need them. Sometimes I deliver the meals to the elders or load them into delivery vehicles to prepare for delivery.

What is your favorite charity?
Heart of Dinner is my favorite charity and where I spend most of my volunteer time. They focus on food instability and loneliness for Asian American elders around New York City. They are very organized and provide a lot of options for volunteering that fit the time you have to give. For example, they have bag decorating sessions which are shorter and more flexible or they have meal packing which is usually longer and slightly more involved.

Kit’s dedication to supporting his community  is a true inspiration to employees at SurveyMonkey, and we hope it is for you too.  You can read more about SurveyMonkey’s social impact efforts in our 2023 Social Impact Report.
