NBC News|SurveyMonkey poll: Trump’s handling of covid19 approval holds steady

NBC News|SurveyMonkey poll: Trump’s handling of covid19 approval holds steady

President Trump’s approval rating on his handling of the coronavirus continues to hold steady at 44% even after his own COVID-19 diagnosis late last week, according to NBC|SurveyMonkey’s latest weekly tracking poll. The partisan splits continue to hold steady as well, with 88% of Republicans but just 35% of independents and 6% of Democrats approving of his handling of the government’s pandemic response.

Just 47% of Republicans and GOP leaners say they wear a mask every time they leave home and might be in contact with other people, compared with 71% of independents and 87% of Democrats and Democratic leaners. Those numbers have been steady throughout our weekly tracking (in late July, 48% of Republicans, 71% of independents, and 86% of Democrats said they wear a mask every time).

Still, Republicans continue to be relatively unconcerned about the potential health consequences of the coronavirus, with just 14% of Republicans (compared with 37% of independents and 48% of Democrats) saying they are very worried that they or someone in their family will be exposed to the virus.
