The Re-imagine Maine + Olive Demonstration project is designed to allow you to experience a temporary roundabout firsthand, and then provide feedback to City staff. 
 
According to the US Federal Highway Administration, roundabouts have been shown to provide a number of benefits, including: 
● Improved Safety - Fewer crashes, up to 90% fewer fatalities and 75% fewer injuries
● Time Savings - Less waiting than at traditional traffic signals or stop signs
● More Environmentally-Friendly
       ○ Less air and noise pollution (from cars not waiting at traffic signals)
       ○ Roundabout islands can be landscaped with native plants and trees
       ○ Roundabouts generally need less land than traditional intersections (no need for turning lanes)
●Financial Savings
       ○ Less fuel use
       ○ Minimal maintenance (traffic signals require yearly maintenance)
       ○ Continued operation during power outages (no electric power required)
