Alternative Spring Break 2013 Application

1. Introduction & Expectations

 
Breakaway from the ordinary this Spring Break!

The vision of Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is to work collaboratively with a group of motivated students to participate in service projects and activities that will challenge their ideals and beliefs so that they grow and broaden their perspective. The trip will inspire participants to spread this new found perspective and encourage others to experience the same.
ASB Purpose:
To introduce students to communities and issues which they might not have otherwise experienced in order to inspire them to garner a passion for service and helping others. We will be engaging in a variety of service projects and focus issues this year. Students will have a lottery-choice to go on ONE of the following trips during Spring Break. March 24-30th, 2013

San Francisco, CA; students will be working with a variety of organizations that serve the HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ communities.

Los Angeles/ Other SoCal City: students will be working with organizations that advocate for Women's Rights.

The Grand Canyon/Other National Park: students will be working with organizations that serve environmental issues.
Expectations for participants:
- Attend an ASB Trip Selection Night (Wed. Oct. 24; 6-8pm; Pida Plaza)
- Attend a Trip Orientation (During 1st or 2nd week of Spring 2013 Semester, DATE/LOCATION TBA)
- Attend 3 training/group meet-up sessions during Spring Semester, DATE/LOCATION TBA
- Attend a Trip Re-Orientation (Towards end of Spring Semester, DATE/LOCATION TBA)
- Have and maintain a 2.0 Cumulative GPA
- Be in good standing with the University
- Pay $200 ($50 non-refundable deposit due Oct. 24, Final payment due Jan. 25), which includes all transportation, lodging, and activities (most meals will be covered; students must pay for meals during the two travel days)
- You will be responsible for planning and participating in group fundraising activities to help offset the cost of the trip
