What does Louisiana’s employment market look like for job hunters in 2014?

The month of May heralds the end of the school semester and the entry of thousands of new college graduates into Louisiana’s job market. This year these job seekers will also be joined by hundreds of veterans returning to the state’s workforce as the military downsizes its troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. So, what does Louisiana’s employment market look like for these job hunters in 2014? What employment sectors anticipate the most growth? And are Louisiana’s college graduates and returning veterans adequately prepared for the jobs that lay ahead? Louisiana Public Square looks for answers on “Job Market 2014” Wednesday, May 28 at 7 p.m. on LPB HD.

As you may be aware, TOPS is a scholarship program funded by the state of Louisiana that provides financial support for Louisiana high school students to attend Louisiana state colleges and universities. The program is currently underfunded and in the future, in order to remain active, cuts will likely need to be made. Would you support or oppose a change to TOPS that ensures TOPS money only goes to the students who pursue degrees in the science fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – While removing all TOPS funding from students who pursue degrees in liberal arts fields such as English, Theater, and Art?
