Information Concerning Participation in a Research Study
Clemson University
An Examination of Workplace Heterosexism
Description of the research and your participation
You are invited to participate in a research study conducted by Dr. Mary Anne Taylor, along with her research assistant, Phillip Lipka. The purpose of this research is to examine the negative effects of workplace heterosexism and identify factors that can help to reduce these effects.
Your participation will involve filling out 11 brief surveys.
The amount of time required for your participation will be roughly 20 minutes.
It is expected that about 400 individuals will participate in the current study.
Risks and discomforts
There is a slight risk of emotional upset since the survey will require you to answer questions regarding heterosexism at work.
Potential benefits
Research that identifies the factors that help GLB individuals cope in heterosexist workplaces is extremely limited. Your participation in this study can help us contribute to the level of existing knowledge in this area.
Protection of confidentiality
We will do everything we can to protect your privacy and any information you provide in this study will remain confidential. All analyses of the data will be conducted at the group level, so your individual responses will not be linked to you in any way in the analyses. Your identity will not be revealed in any publication that might result from this study.
Voluntary participation
Your participation in this research study is voluntary. You may choose not to participate and you may withdraw your consent to participate at any time. You will not be penalized in any way should you decide not to participate or to withdraw from this study.
