2008 PETE Initial Standards Revision |
The National Standards Revision Committee for the Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) Standards is seeking member input on the current 2008 PETE standards. When providing input, please keep in mind that NCATE stipulates the following:
1) We must have a minimum of five standards and we cannot exceed eight standards.
2) Within the five to eight standards, we are only allowed a total of 24 elements.
3) Standards/elements must address four principles listed below. Each principle does not have to be specifically addressed by any one standard; however, the standards must fall under the heading of one of the four principles.
Principle A – The Learning and Learning (learner development, learning differences, and learning environments).
Principle B – Content Knowledge (content knowledge and application of content).
Principle C – Instructional Practice (assessment, planning for instruction, and instructional strategies).
Principle D – Professional Responsibility (professional learning and ethical practice and leadership and collaboration.
The NASPE Board established the 2008 PETE Initial Standards Revision Committee in August 2012. The 2008 PETE Initial Standards are scheduled for revision and eventual approval and adoption by CAEP (formerly NCATE) in the fall of 2015. Committee members are currently reviewing, reflecting upon, and searching current literature on program review and performance-based candidate evaluation. The committee is also seeking member input on the current 2008 NASPE PETE Initial Standards. Please reflect on the current standards/elements and indicate your beliefs regarding these standards.
