Survey of Journalists of Color
 

 
Thank you for taking this survey. It should not take more than seven minutes to complete. Please feel free to be candid in your responses because this is an anonymous survey and no one who takes the survey will be identified.

The terms “people of color,” “of color” and “color” are employed in this survey for purposes of brevity. They refer to people who historically have been underrepresented in mainstream American journalism. These terms do not refer merely to race, ethnicity or skin color.

1. As a person of color, I have an obligation to pursue and suggest coverage of issues that are important to people of my color.

2. I have been asked by people of my color (who are not journalists) to look out for their interests in my news medium.

3. I have been criticized by people of my color (who are not journalists) for not making sure their interests have been protected / respected /covered in my news medium.

4. As a person of color, I have an obligation to pursue and suggest coverage of issues of interest to any or all people of color.

5. A good white journalist can effectively cover the issues and concerns of communities of color.

6. A good journalist of color can effectively cover the issues and concerns of any community of color.

7. I am or have been primarily an employee of a medium directed at an audience of color (e.g. Navajo Times, China Daily, Telemundo, La Opinión,The Afro American).
