Homeworkers and home-based businesses: please help us to help you!
This survey is for people who are self-employed or run a business from home in the Milton Keynes and South Midlands area. If this applies to you, please take part - and tell other homeworkers you know.
We are researching the needs of home-based businesses and freelancers in this part of the country, where significant investment in new homes and jobs is planned in the years ahead. This work has been commissioned by mksm (Milton Keynes South Midlands Executive Team.
We already know from surveys that in south-east England, 44% of all businesses are now home-based. The UK average was 41%, even before the recession. More and more people are running a business from home.
The advantages of homeworking (such as lower costs and convenience) are well documented. But little has been done to date to help homeworkers deal with the possible disadvantages.
One option that is proving increasingly popular is the idea of a 'workhub'. Workhubs are places that can offer users workspace, technical equipment, virtual office services and opportunities to network and collaborate with other people - as and when you want.
The purpose of this survey is to find out whether such a facility in your area might appeal to people like you - and if so, what kind of services/facilities would work best.
The survey should take you about five minutes to complete.
