Jordan School District is facing a budget shortfall of at least $29.2 million for the 2010-11 school year. The Board has been advised to anticipate additional cuts from the State in the range of $2-12 million, bringing the potential budget shortfall to as much as $41 million. The administration has recommended various options in the areas of additional personnel cuts, reduction or elimination of non-mandated programs and services, reduced employee compensation, increases in class size, and possible increased taxes. As a Board of Education, we are faced with making difficult choices in balancing our budget. Everyone will need to be a part of the solution. No single option is available to us to offset the budget shortfall. It will require a combination of reductions from various sources. Even though this is not a scientific survey, the results will be helpful. They will not be used as the single determining factor in balancing the budget. We will use multiple sources of data, gather input from various individuals and groups, and combine these with the knowledge, experience, priorities, and understanding of school board members.
