Nursing Safety Net – Recovering Medical Errors |
Nurses who care for critically ill patients are requested to participate in an anonymous survey to study one of the ways in which nurses keep patients safe -- by recovering medical errors (the nursing role in the “near miss”). Our team developed a survey to learn more about this “invisible role.” If you care for critically ill patients who receive complex therapeutic interventions, please consider completing this survey.
Our team consists of four nurses: 1) myself, Ann Hurley, RN, DNSc, FAAN - Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) nurse who directs nursing research activities at BWH; 2) Mary Lou Moore, RN, MS - BWH CCU Nurse Manager; 3) Colleen Snydeman, RN, MS - Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) CCU Nurse Manager; and 4) Patricia Dykes, RN, DNSc - Senior Nurse Informatician at Partners HealthCare and one physician, Jeffrey Rothschild, MD, MPH, BWH Department of Medicine.
This project is approved by the Partners HealthCare System Human Research Committee, the Institutional Review Board (IRB) that approves clinical research conducted at BWH and MGH. We estimate that it will take about 15 minutes to complete. You may skip any questions or sections you so choose. Completing the survey indicates that you recognize that this is a research project in which you have volunteered to participate.
This is an exciting project that will help us learn more about how nursing contributes to make care safer for critically ill patients.
