Weipa Community Survey
Thank you for taking part in this important survey, which should take around 10 minutes to complete.
The purpose of the survey is to help inform Rio Tinto’s plan for mining on Cape York Peninsula, including:
- the closure of the East Weipa mine (which ceased mining in 2024);
- the eventual cessation of mining of Andoom mine (in 2029); and
- the potential expansion of mining operations south of Amrun (around 2029).
Specifically, Rio Tinto is looking to understand how residents feel these projects might affect individuals and the community. Feedback will directly inform completion of a comprehensive Socio-Economic Impact Assessment (SEIA).
A SEIA examines how a project might affect a community's social and economic conditions, such as employment, income, and community well-being. It involves gathering data and input from people to help decision-makers understand and address both positive and negative impacts
All answers will be strictly confidential. The survey does not ask you for any personal details. No individual survey responses will be reported or individuals identified in any reporting.
