Purley Skyscraper |
Last December, Croydon council granted planning consent for a 17 floor skyscraper in the centre of Purley, on the site with the grey hoardings on Purley Cross.
Chris Philp MP and many other local campaigners (including 7 local Residents Associations) believe that a 17 floor skyscraper is totally out of keeping with a peaceful town like Purley, and there is a danger that other developers will later try to use it as a precedent to build more skyscrapers in Purley. There are also only 37 parking spaces for 220 flats, which will add to the existing parking problems in Purley.

The site does need redeveloping but a much smaller scheme would be more suitable.
Chris lobbied the Secretary of State and the planning application has now been "called in". The application will be decided again at a fresh hearing in front of an independent Planning Inspector. This will be an 8 day hearing starting on 8th January, with a decision a few months after that.
Chris is planning to submit a petition opposing the scheme to the inspector. Please sign below to signal your views and please also forward this link (www.surveymonkey.com/r/StopPurleySkyscraper) to your friends and neighbours.
