The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) has finished construction on the Waterbury Bridge BO 1446(40) Replacement Project (Stowe Street Town Bridge #36). The Stowe Street Town Bridge Replacement Project on Stowe Street over Thatcher Brook approximately 110 feet south of the junction with Vermont Route 100 (VT 100) in the Town of Waterbury. The project consisted of the replacement of the existing bridge with a precast concrete frame structure.
Construction began the June 2025 and concluded in November 2025. In advance of construction activities, the Park & Ride originally located at 201 Lincoln Street was temporarily relocated to the Stanley/Wasson Lot in the State Office Complex. In addition, Rural Community Transit and Green Mountain Transit temporarily relocated their Park & Ride bus stop to the Stanley/Wasson Lot. Rural Community Transit also added a temporary bus stop at Shaw’s Plaza off of VT 100.
There were two scheduled closures as part of the project, a 67-day closure of Stowe Street and a 15-day closure of Lincoln Street. The Stowe Street signed detour directed traffic along Waterbury-Stowe Road (VT 100), U.S. 2, and Stowe Street. During the Stowe Street closure, the Town of Waterbury offered an on-demand shuttle service for those who needed local assistance to cross the bridge. The Lincoln Street signed detour directed traffic to Perry Hill Road, Kneeland Flats Road, and Guptil Road.
