East Longmeadow is considering the creation of a Center Town District. The District would be limited in size and would concentrate on pedestrian-friendliness while welcoming new or redeveloped mixed uses including both residential and commercial. By focusing new development at the center of town, we can retain residents wishing to downsize, and add new residents and businesses, both of which will help add vitality to our town and expand the tax base. Compact development in the center district will also protect valuable green space and the residential character of our neighborhoods. Walkability within our center will contribute to individual health and well-being, a more robust business climate, and a greater sense of community. What can you imagine a future town center to be?
