Community Service Action Plans

Following engagement with the community during 2023 through surveys, town meetings and pop up engagements, the Community Service Action Plan suite of documents were developed -
  • Library and Youth Development Action Plan
  • Arts, Culture and Heritage Action Plan
  • Tourism Action Plan
We are currently in the final stages of engagement prior to Council endoresement and are seeking the community's feedback on the Final Draft.

The provision of spaces and upgrading existing spaces for the community to engage, lead and foster ongoing activities in arts, culture, and heritage.
Ease and accessibility for Council owned assets for community led events, desired changes include upgrading of booking and administration process, opening hours and regular maintenance and checking of facilities to ensure spaces are safe and operational.
Encouraging community groups and events to utilise the Australian Date Tourism Warehouse (ATDW). This automatically feeds into the Visit Hughenden website as well as other tourism houses.
Leveraging and enhancing the Arts Advisory Group to champion community led artistic and cultural endeavours through information sharing, aiding, and partnering with local art activity.
Encourage residents to seek out and apply for grants with the Regional Arts Development Fund and Arts QLD.
Develop a plan to consolidate heritage and archival material.
Continue to work with local indigenous groups to highlight and explore cultural ties to share with the community and create meaningful opportunities for exchange.

Develop a plan for increasing library space or investing in a new location for the library to co-locate with the proposed country university centre.
Ongoing investment in library resources, equipment and increase program delivery and staff support. Suggestions included the upgrade and additional supply of technology offerings and range of books. Additionally, the community expressed a desire for library services to be delivered in the smaller communities such as Prairie and Torrens Creek.
Undergo a review of current events, engagements, and library services to align with current desire for new opportunities for diverse groups within the space available.
Increase library communication to community about current events, resources, and plans via social media, e-newsletters, hard copy etc.
Partner with community to develop outreach opportunities within the library space.
Increased opportunity for towns to have access to mobile library services.

Providing pathways for volunteer and learning opportunities – partnering with local businesses to offer internships and encouraging local business to promote career pathways.
Upgrading community outdoor assets to more accessible, modern facilities (playgrounds, skate park, water bubblers, public toilets).
Seek funding for the development of a Country University Centre and communicate updates.
Partner with library and local businesses to introduce programs to engage Youth through learning, working and social opportunities such as digital music recording, gaming, social media.
Improve access to transport through a community bus service for school-aged students
Establish a Youth Council to ensure community youth has a voice within the region, offering an opportunity for young people to build leadership skills and engage with their community.

Develop accommodation options for visitors such as cabin style accommodation at the caravan park, and additional motel accommodation.
Develop more Agri-tourism opportunities such as farmstays, property tours, regional restaurants featuring local produce.
Provide transport options to capture visitors who may fly in or need transportation around town such as hire company who may provide hire vehicles, or a limited taxi / ride share service.
Seek business and private enterprise investment in tourism activities.
Town beautification and signage upgrade.
Consolidation of history and tourism assets to develop guided visitor information.
